Holly McKeen
Potter, Visual Artist
Multidisciplinary, Ceramics
Holly McKeen has been managing and marketing a busy studio practice since 2002, specializing in crystalline glazed porcelain and a full line of functional wares. Over the past decade, she has delivered workshops and presentations on crystalline glazes to potters across Canada, the USA, and by invitation in La Bisbal, Spain. Her works have been featured in publications such as Ceramics Monthly, Clay Times Magazine, 100 Tips, Tools & Techniques, and Terr Art – Revista Ceramica of Barcelona, among other pottery network and guild publications.
Holly is particularly fascinated by complex surfaces and conducts in-depth studies of glaze formulations that incorporate unusual materials and rare-earth elements, utilizing dynamic firing schedules and processes. She has a keen interest in forms that provide a quiet, elegant palette for her often dramatic surfaces, and she especially enjoys working with porcelain on the wheel.
As she transitions into semi-retirement, Holly continues to create new works, teach workshops, and mentor emerging artists in the field of crystalline. She is looking forward to instructing a sold-out 5-day workshop titled "Deep Dive into Crystalline and Special Effects Glazes" at the Mechosin International Summer School of the Arts (MISSA) this summer.
